And we're off! 2023–24 Season
Rehearsals resumed on Thursday on 7 September in St Stephen's Centre, Lansdown, Bath as we start looking at music for the coming year. In the autumn we're performing Handel's brilliantly exciting Dixit Dominus as well as one of the greatest works ever written, Mozart's (and others) Requiem on 25 November. In the Spring Fauré's Requiem and other beautiful works will be performed in St Mary's, Bathwick on 16 March and in June (date tbc) we'll be singing Rutter's Magnificat and Stanford's Song of the Fleet in Freshford Village Hall. There's space in all sections if you'd like to join us.
2022-23 season gets underway!
BCG returns to St Stephen's Centre, Lansdown Road, Bath on Thursday, 8 September 2022 7:30-9:30 pm! Should you wish to join us we'd love to hear from you! On the menu this year is Haydn Insanae et vanae curae, Mozart Vesperae Solennes de Cofessore and Haydn Harmony Mass in November, Mozart Regina Coeli in C, Haydn Trumpet Concerto in Bb and Mozart Requiem in March and Handel's beautiful opera Acis & Galatea in June.
Beresford King-Smith, BCG Founder in 1955 sadly passes away aged 90
We were very sad to learn of the death of the choir's founder, Beresford King-Smith, on 28 September 2021. Beresford established Bath Cantata Group in 1955 and directed it for the next 10 years. He continued to support the choir over the years, even when he was busy with the CBSO, and made several trips down to Bath in his last few years for our Diamond Jubilee in 2015 as well as in 2019 when we sang his Psalm Symphony. Several obituaries appeared following his passing and he featured on the BBC Radio 4 programme The Last Word on 15 October 2021 (from 20 minutes).
Post-pandemic rehearsals resume! - Sept '21
We're very excited that rehearsals are back in motion following this last year and a half. We're working towards our concert on 27 November in which we'll provide some of the best choruses from Handel's ever-popular Messiah as well as Bach's beautiful cantata Wachet auf (Sleepers awake). There's room for new faces in the soprano, tenor and bass sections - sorry altos but we're at our limit at the minute.

Cress runs the Bath Half for BCG!
Cressida Lyon, BCG soprano, donned her running shoes on Sunday 13 March to run the Bath Half Marathon in aid of choir funds. Raising almost £700 and beating her personal best time (1hr 49mins) we think she deserves to put her feet up (whilst listening to the Walton, of course)! Here she is nearing the course finish line and still able to crack a smile and thumbs up!
Thanks, Cress, you're a star!

Join us!
We are always keen to hear from anyone interested in joining the group. We're a non auditioned choir and aim to be around 40. If you you enjoy singing and can read music, especially first sopranos and tenors, we'd like to hear from you.
We rehearse on Thursday evenings and have around 3 concerts each year, usually on Saturdays.
If you are interested please contact Helen Chalmers on 01225 310624 or email [email protected]
